The Kalahari Research Centre operates all year round, with its largest long-term project based at the research station being the Kalahari Meerkat Project. The project is run on-site by a team of project managers and volunteer research assistants, whom maintain and initiate the habituation of groups of wild meerkats, and collect various daily data on meerkats. There are meerkat groups that have been followed for over 20 years, others for just a few months, and all expanding across the Kuruman River Reserve and beyond.

At the KRC, there are some exclusive opportunities to get to know the meerkats, their lives and their behaviours, and the work of the Kalahari Meerkat Project on a much closer scale.
