Film Crew Visit

Film Crew Opportunities

Due to the excellent habituation maintained through studying the meerkats on a regular basis, it has also been possible for film crews to be able to approach them and capture their antics on film in a much closer manner than most wildlife, without impacting or influencing their natural behaviours. From this, alongside a great amount of knowledge built up about them, they have become the stars of documentaries and television series such as Planet Earth and Meerkat Manor. They have become a globally recognised and loved species of the Kalahari.

The KRC hosts professional film crews who wish to film our populations of habituated birds and mammals, including meerkats, Cape ground squirrels, yellow mongoose, fork-tailed drongos, Southern yellow-billed hornbills, and Southern pied babblers. All of these provide unusual opportunities since they can usually be filmed from a few metres distance. In addition, the Kalahari landscape is unusually open, making it relatively easy to locate groups of animals and film them from some distance away when necessary.
