Pied Babbler Research Project

Overview

The Pied Babbler Research Project was established by Associate Professor Amanda Ridley, University of Western Australia in 2003.

About the Project

The Pied Babbler research involves observation of habituated, ringed groups of cooperatively breeding pied babblers in their natural environment. This long-term research project investigates patterns of cooperative breeding behaviour, and both short-term and long-term individual differences in the benefits of cooperation. The research project also investigates the relationship between cooperation and climate change (responses to increasing temperatures by individuals in groups of different sizes), cooperation and cognition (testing the social intelligence hypothesis) and cooperation and communication (testing the social complexity hypothesis).
